The Intern {Sara Allman}

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013

Hi everyone, I’d like to take the opportunity to introduce myself and let you know a little bit about me. My name is Sara Allman and I am a Currituck County native. I am currently working for my Associates degree in photography through Randolph Community College. I have been photographing, mostly film, since I can remember and it has always been something that I love. I am a “country bumpkin” and a beach bum all in one. I enjoy boat rides, fishing, playing with my dogs, spending time with family and friends, and PHOTOGRAPHY, of course. So far my internship with Courtney Hathaway Photography has been wonderful. She is kind, funny, and a great mentor. I am very excited to continue on this new endeavor with her and hope you can join us by booking your session with her!

Melissa + Chris {Married} l Outer Banks Wedding Photographer

Sunday, November 25th, 2012

Melissa & Chris are an adorable couple, so sweet, and you can tell just by watching them that they truly love each other’s company. Melissa shared with me that their first romantic getaway was to the White Doe Inn in Manteo, so when they decided to get married they thought they would come full circle by having their wedding there. They had a beautiful oceanfront ceremony, followed by more photos around the Inn – which makes for the most beautiful backdrop! Chris, and especially Melissa, are total troopers as the weather was very cold and windy. They hung in there, and I am so glad I was able to be a part of their special day!

Tammy & Seth {Married} l OBX Wedding Photographer l Outer Banks Wedding Photography l Elizabethan Gardens Wedding

Monday, May 7th, 2012

Tammy & Seth are just about the cutest couple! They were married surrounded by family and friends at the gorgeous Elizabethan Gardens, officiated by Rev. Tanya Young. I got to the gardens a little early for their mid day ceremony, and was thrilled to see the weather was beautiful. All morning it has been overcast and a little iffy, but we were blessed with sunshine and blue skies during their ceremony. They chose a fantastic location, on the terrace overlooking the main fountain. We followed up their ceremony with a group shot of everyone and family pictures, before stealing a little time with just the bride & groom. As the afternoon came to an end, Tammy & Seth loaded up with their family and friends, headed back to their reception in the 4×4 area of Carova Beach!

Their adorable ring bearer needed a little reassurance about going down the isle! Many times kids are too shy to make it down, and usually mom or dad comes to get them. I loved seeing Seth leave his post to go get his nephew – too sweet!

Laura & Dave {Engaged} l OBX Wedding & Engagement Photographer l New Bern, NC Photographer

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

Laura is one of the first friends I met when I started college. We quickly bonded and have remained friends ever since. Our friendship is the kind where it doesn’t matter how long you go without seeing each other, it’s like you just pick up where you left off. Living far away for quite a while, we didn’t see each other much and I had’t had the chance to meet the new man in her life, Dave. It didn’t take much time to see that Dave is a perfect fit for Laura. They are definitely well matched, and he dotes on her like every girl deserves. Dave is in the Air Force, and a few short weeks after their June wedding they’ll be headed off for 3 year in England. I’m looking forward to photographing their wedding at the beautiful Abilena Plantation in New Bern this June.

Laura & Dave came out to visit me on the OBX, and the weather was NOT forgiving. It wasn’t just cold and rainy, it was pouring! So much for beach portraits. Since Dave is in the Air Force we’d planned on some photos at the local airport but the weather didn’t cooperate. Luckily, we were able to pop into Barrier Island Aviation and use the Biplane and hanger for some indoor portraits. We got up (early) the next morning and braved some drizzling rain for some outdoor portraits in Downtown Manteo.  I’m definitely going to miss Laura when she leaves, but I know she’ll have a blast exploring Europe with her love!

Mahler Family l Outer Banks Photographer l OBX Photographer

I love photographing friends, it’s almost like not working at all! My friend Debi and I were chatting about her family holiday photos while running down the road. Debi and I both do a fitness bootcamp, in fact, we started on the same day so I guess you could say we’ve been together from the beginning. Six months ago we were both running our first 5k and now we both just finished our first Half Marathon. It’s insane to think of how far we’ve come. Debi is hysterical – she always keeps me laughing, and after spending the afternoon with her family the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree! We met up downtown with her husband and kids to get the perfect Christmas card photo. Everyone, right on down to Sasha the dog, was on their best behavior!

Christy + Ryan {Engaged} l Outer Banks Wedding & Engagement Photographer

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

Last week I had a lot of fun photographing Christy & Ryan’s engagment session. We met up at Coquina Beach and lucked out with a beautiful evening – and cool (for summer time!) temps. They’re getting married back in Virginia, but took advantage of their beach vacation to have some engagement photos taken. They did it right…normally I photograph families all staying together but they were vacationing with several other couple friends. Talk about a fun way to spend your vacation!

Joseph + Nichole {Engaged} l Outer Banks Engagement & Wedding Photographer

Monday, August 1st, 2011

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing Nichole and Joseph’s engagment photos. We started out taking a walk around historic Downtown Manteo, followed up by some beach portraits at Coquina Beach. They had awesome weather for their session! They’re planning a wedding in their hometown, but wanted something a little different for their engagement photos.

Stevi l Outer Banks Senior Portrait Photographer l OBX Beach Portraits

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

This week I had a great time photographing Stevi’s senior portraits at Coquina Beach. It was overcast and windy, but she rocked it out, and had the perfect hair for the beach!! It looked awesome blowing in the wind. I also love how she brought a photo of her mom to include in the portraits – she would definitely be proud of the sweet young lady you are!

Casaday Family l Outer Banks Family Beach Portraits l OBX Photographer

Sunday, July 3rd, 2011

The other week I had the pleasure of working with this gorgeous family at Coquina Beach in South Nags Head. It’s a rare treat to work with a family of all adults. That means that (hopefully) no one is going to cry or run away from me. The whole family was amazing to work with, and did anything that I asked them to. We had some amazing light, the temps were great, and without the wind we were able to get some amazing reflection shots!

Ball Time l Outer Banks Lifestyle & Child Photographer

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

My not so little anymore little sister is playing her first year of softball.  It’s a Babe Ruth summer league and I couldn’t be more excited! I never thought I’d be one of those adults at the ball field. You know, the obnoxious ones you see scream, hoot, and yell for their team? I’m eating my words. I’m the first one to jump up and down when they hit the ball or scream when they make a run. Let me just tell you, for a group of middle school age girls, they can really play hard. I was astonished at my first game when they were stealing bases and sliding into home. They don’t mess around!

The common misconception with professional photographers is that we photograph everything. So not true. Everyone seems to have an area they specialize in, and for me, I’ve never been into sports photography – until now. I’m surprised at how much I’ve enjoyed photographing the games…and if I’m being honest…it keeps me quiet..haha. Concentrating on getting the shot means I scream less, which probably makes the coach (and my sister, who will one day die from embarrassment) happy.
