Kelly + Lorenzo {Engaged} l Outer Banks Wedding Photographer l Hatteras Island Photographer

Saturday, September 10th, 2011

Before Hurricane Irene blew into the OBX I had the chance to meet up with Kelly & Lorenzo. They were staying down in Rodanthe for  a planning trip, to get a few things together for their 2012 wedding. Kelly & Lorenzo are the type of people you could chat with for hours – and that’s exactly what we did! Our simple wedding consultation turned into 3 hours of coffee and chatting. Just as the sun was setting we skipped across the street to an empty soundside lot for a quick mini engagement session.

Morgan {Senior} l Hatteras Island Photographer l OBX Beach Portraits

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

I met up with Morgan and her parents at the Avon Pier for her senior session recently. They were in town from Virginia and Morgan wanted a little something different than the other seniors in her area. We chose the Avon Pier for it’s variety of scenery, and I think we made a great choice. It was wonderful getting to work with Morgan, and her parents were just as sweet as could be. Thanks for spending the afternoon with me!

Katie + Jason {Engaged} l Hatteras Island Engagement & Wedding Photographer

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Katie contacted me about scheduling an engagement session while they were staying on Hatteras Island. I was able to fit them in, and met up with them at the Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton for an evening session.  We started at the base of the lighthouse, having to be super quiet as there was a small wedding ceremony happening on the other side. From there we headed to the beach. Are they seriously not the most adorable couple EVER? Katie is so sweet and Jason is a riot. I laughed the entire time, which really says a lot! You can tell they will have many happy years ahead of them! Katie’s family has a house in Hatteras, and they’re evening planning a summer 2012 wedding here on the OBX.

The Long Family l Hatteras Island/Outer Banks Family Beach Portrait Photographer

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

This wonderful family was staying down on Hatteras Island alllll the way at the end near the ferry. I have to say, I absolutely LOVE shooting on Hatteras Island. It is by far one of the most beautiful areas of the Outer Banks. Untouched beaches with beautiful dunes and very few people.

As fate would have it, they were forced to leave early (for the second or third time!!!) due to an oncoming hurricane. Luckily we were able to fit their session in the night before evacuation. It was like the calm before the storm. I was blessed with great light and awesome kids. One of my favorites elements to a session is when people bring props – like chairs or other items that mean a lot to them. I think it really adds to the photos. These guys had planned on doing some fun kite flying as a family for their pictures – but as nature would have it there wasn’t enough wind. Go figure, evacuated for a hurricane and not enough wind to fly the kite…haha. We managed to get a couple kite shots in before we gave up on the flying. They also had their super cute puppy with them – I love photographing the family pets. As a huge dog lover myself, I always welcome bringing along animals. :)

I also want to take a moment to point out their great clothing choices. They kept it classic, but with some fun too. I love the punch of color with mom’s top, and that dad and the boys are both wearing blue – but different shades. It’s totally possible to stay classic with your beach portraits, while still add some fun and color as well. Great choices guys!
