Book your OBX Beach Portrait | Outer Banks Family Beach Portrait Photographer

Wednesday, April 24th, 2013

Summer is FAST approaching here on the Outer Banks and it’s almost time for those OBX Beach Vacations. We were teased by Mother Nature over the past few weeks with some beautiful warm weather (if you could stand the pollen!) and like a cruel trick she brought us some really nasty weather. The past week has been cold wind, rain, more wind, more rain, finished up with a little more wind! FINALLY today we woke up to blue skies and birds chirping. While you still can’t put on those swimsuits just yet, it is really nice to go outside without needing a parka….or a morton salt man rain suit!

So in honor of the beautiful weather we’re having today we’ve decided to kick start our 2013 OBX Beach Portrait Season with a little promo to celebrate the great weather!

The Intern {Sara Allman}

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013

Hi everyone, I’d like to take the opportunity to introduce myself and let you know a little bit about me. My name is Sara Allman and I am a Currituck County native. I am currently working for my Associates degree in photography through Randolph Community College. I have been photographing, mostly film, since I can remember and it has always been something that I love. I am a “country bumpkin” and a beach bum all in one. I enjoy boat rides, fishing, playing with my dogs, spending time with family and friends, and PHOTOGRAPHY, of course. So far my internship with Courtney Hathaway Photography has been wonderful. She is kind, funny, and a great mentor. I am very excited to continue on this new endeavor with her and hope you can join us by booking your session with her!

Family Portraits {Outer Banks Beach Portrait Photographer}

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013

That time of year is almost here again. Where you listen to the waves crashing, feel the wind and sun on your skin, the smell of salty air, and tasting the ocean on your lips. Every summer is different here in the OBX; and each summer is full of families and new adventures. Planning your trip is just the start. What better way to remember your spectacular vacation at beaches like Nags Head, Corolla, and Kill Devil Hills than with your very own OBX family portraits. So this summer let Courtney Hathaway Photography capture the memories from your Outer Banks vacation.

Outer Banks Family Portraits {Outer Banks Beach Portrait Photographer}

Thursday, February 14th, 2013

It’s that time of year again, the time when families are making their vacation plans for summer! It’s hard to believe we’re in February already, but school will be out before you know it and summer vacation will soon be here! Many families are making plans for their Family Beach Portraits and what better time than during your OBX Vacation?

So what’s different about this year? We’re moving forward with our desire to go totally digital, with the exception of our wall art! So what does that mean for you? We’ve revamped our session offerings, and now every session includes the digital files. Images from your session are accessed via your personal and private online gallery, where you will be able to download your digital files directly to your computer. Now each family member can log into the gallery and download their own copy of the images from your session!

Don’t worry, you still have the option to purchase prints through your gallery. We specialize in Wall Art (Prints & Canvases), specifically prints 11×14 and larger. Wall Prints are carefully mounted and receive a linen texture finish and protective lacquer coating for durability and longevity. Gallery Wrapped Canvases are printed on a high end canvas and wrapped around a wooden stretcher with the hanging hardware already attached!

Stevi l Outer Banks Senior Portrait Photographer l OBX Beach Portraits

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

This week I had a great time photographing Stevi’s senior portraits at Coquina Beach. It was overcast and windy, but she rocked it out, and had the perfect hair for the beach!! It looked awesome blowing in the wind. I also love how she brought a photo of her mom to include in the portraits – she would definitely be proud of the sweet young lady you are!

The other week I had the pleasure of working with this gorgeous family at Coquina Beach in South Nags Head. It’s a rare treat to work with a family of all adults. That means that (hopefully) no one is going to cry or run away from me. The whole family was amazing to work with, and did anything that I asked them to. We had some amazing light, the temps were great, and without the wind we were able to get some amazing reflection shots!

Renee & Family l OBX-Duck, NC Family Portrait Photographer

Monday, June 27th, 2011

It’s always flattering when another photographer chooses (or refers) you. I consider it to be one of the highest compliments. When Renee contacted me about photographing her family while they were here on vacation I was excited! She’s super sweet, and her boys were adorable. It was great getting to meet them, I hope to see them next year! We grabbed a few family shots to begin with, and then focused on some candids – and more specifically Renee with her kids. As most mom’s know, you rarely ever get IN the photos with your family. As a photographer mom, it’s pretty much impossible as everyone expects that you’ll be taking the photos. I’m glad we were able to capture some sweet moments between Renee and her boys!

Ball Time l Outer Banks Lifestyle & Child Photographer

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

My not so little anymore little sister is playing her first year of softball.  It’s a Babe Ruth summer league and I couldn’t be more excited! I never thought I’d be one of those adults at the ball field. You know, the obnoxious ones you see scream, hoot, and yell for their team? I’m eating my words. I’m the first one to jump up and down when they hit the ball or scream when they make a run. Let me just tell you, for a group of middle school age girls, they can really play hard. I was astonished at my first game when they were stealing bases and sliding into home. They don’t mess around!

The common misconception with professional photographers is that we photograph everything. So not true. Everyone seems to have an area they specialize in, and for me, I’ve never been into sports photography – until now. I’m surprised at how much I’ve enjoyed photographing the games…and if I’m being honest…it keeps me quiet..haha. Concentrating on getting the shot means I scream less, which probably makes the coach (and my sister, who will one day die from embarrassment) happy.

Lindsey & Eric {Married} l Outer Banks Wedding Photography

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

Ceremony Location: Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church

Reception Location: Beach Realty Rental Home – Thunderbird

Cupcakes: Carolina Cupcakery

Catering: High Cotton BBQ

Entertainment: Coastal Beach DJ’s

Cake Topper: Etsy Seller- Mud Cards

Lindsey & Eric finally got married, and I still can’t believe it! I’ve known Eric since we were kids, and Lindsey since high school – they’ve been together pretty much as long as Rob and I. When they got engaged a couple of years ago I was thrilled for them, and even more shocked when they finally got around to getting a date! Lindsey was probably one the THE most relaxed brides I’ve worked with. We decided to do all photos – including a first look – before the ceremony. When I showed up most of the hair/makeup had been done and everyone was just hanging out relaxing. It was wonderful, low-stress, and overall just great to chat and catch up with everyone. One thing that I absolutely love is the attention to detail Lindsey put into the little things. Everything from her personalized hanger for the dress to her AWESOME custom cake topper – the little elements were everywhere. I love the way they bucked tradition. We photographed everyone ahead of time, and even rode all together in the limo to/from the ceremony. They even had their super adorable doggie, Dolce, in the wedding party AT the church!

Congratulations to Eric & Lindsey, I’m so happy for you guys!

Rob + Catherine {Married} l Nags Head / Outer Banks Wedding Photographer

Monday, April 25th, 2011

I’m actually blogging their photos a little backwards, and starting with the “Day After” session.

Rob & Catherine were, hands down, one of the sweetest couples I’ve ever worked with. Like many of my wedding couples, they booked me without ever meeting me in person. I headed over to their rental cottage after they got into town to say hello and check things out. They had their family with them, and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. You could tell they were so excited to here in Nags Head celebrating Rob & Catherine’s wedding. We were blessed with some beautiful Outer Banks weather, and aside from some wind, it was a great week.

Catherine is just one of those women you can instantly be friends with. It’s no secret my favorite part of a wedding are the bride and groom portraits. Well, my second favorite would have to be “getting ready”. I love the details, I love the chaos, and I love the sweet moments that happen in those last few minutes before a couple says ” I Do”. Just before the ceremony we shooed everyone out of the room for a few last minute photos of Catherine alone. She sat down to open her gift from Rob and it was probably one of the best moments I’ve gotten to be a part of at a wedding. Inside the wrapping was a picture frame that contained a photo of the two of them, and the receipt from the restaurant on their first date. To think, he’d saved it all this time. He must have known then this would be the girl for him! As she opened the second part of the gift it was a large book. Rob has designed it himself, and it was full of photos of the two of them over the years. Just watching Catherine look through that book, telling me where the different photos were taken – I was teary eyed. Then it happend. Catherine closed the book, took a deep breath, and exclaimed: “I love that man!”. And then the tears came – yes, I cried.

So now on to the good stuff. We met up a couple days later for a  ”Day After” session. This time of year leaves us with windy weather, but luckily it wasn’t that cold and we were able to get some beautiful and relaxed images of the two of them.
