Pretty In Pink l Hatteras Island Wedding & Portrait Photographer

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of photographing Jack & Michelle’s Hatteras Island Wedding. I’d recently gotten some super adorable bright pink parasols for another wedding, as a bridesmaid prop. Unfortunately, at that beach wedding it was WAY too windy to break them out. During the day Michelle’s sister/bridesmaid saw my parasols and knew they’d perfectly match the dresses her girls were wearing. Later that evening just before I headed home we broke out the parasols and took the twins outside for an impromptu session.

Ceremony Location: Hatteras United Methodist Church

Reception Location: Hatteras Civic Center

Florals: Sun Flowers Florist

Cake: Cake Hatteras

Guest Accommodations: Dolphin Realty

Jack & Michelle are Hatteras locals – and if you’re speeding in the Village, it’s likely you’ll get to meet Jack. ;-) Jack might be a tough guy, but I had Michelle on my side – and he’ll do anything for her. Michelle is the sweetest person, and we had a great time getting together a couple weeks before the wedding to finalize a plan and check out the locations. She was so easy going, and I instantly knew it would be great working with her.

Michelle and her team did a fantastic job decorating the Civic Center. It’s already a great spot, with beautiful finishes and neutral colors. Michelle’s mom made gorgeous silk floral wreaths (that I may or may not have wanted to take home) that adorned the walls, along with starfish. They had a wonderful day, and we were even able to sneak away towards the end of the evening for some quiet portraits on the property.

Ball Time l Outer Banks Lifestyle & Child Photographer

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

My not so little anymore little sister is playing her first year of softball.  It’s a Babe Ruth summer league and I couldn’t be more excited! I never thought I’d be one of those adults at the ball field. You know, the obnoxious ones you see scream, hoot, and yell for their team? I’m eating my words. I’m the first one to jump up and down when they hit the ball or scream when they make a run. Let me just tell you, for a group of middle school age girls, they can really play hard. I was astonished at my first game when they were stealing bases and sliding into home. They don’t mess around!

The common misconception with professional photographers is that we photograph everything. So not true. Everyone seems to have an area they specialize in, and for me, I’ve never been into sports photography – until now. I’m surprised at how much I’ve enjoyed photographing the games…and if I’m being honest…it keeps me quiet..haha. Concentrating on getting the shot means I scream less, which probably makes the coach (and my sister, who will one day die from embarrassment) happy.

Blogging their wedding photos reminded me that I never blogged their engagement session. Lindsey & Eric came out with their puppy Dolce, while we strolled around Downtown Manteo photographing. Downtown is one of my favorite spots to shoot – you just never know what you’ll find.

Reception Location: Beach Realty Rental Home – Thunderbird

Cupcakes: Carolina Cupcakery

Catering: High Cotton BBQ

Entertainment: Coastal Beach DJ’s

Cake Topper: Etsy Seller- Mud Cards

Lindsey & Eric finally got married, and I still can’t believe it! I’ve known Eric since we were kids, and Lindsey since high school – they’ve been together pretty much as long as Rob and I. When they got engaged a couple of years ago I was thrilled for them, and even more shocked when they finally got around to getting a date! Lindsey was probably one the THE most relaxed brides I’ve worked with. We decided to do all photos – including a first look – before the ceremony. When I showed up most of the hair/makeup had been done and everyone was just hanging out relaxing. It was wonderful, low-stress, and overall just great to chat and catch up with everyone. One thing that I absolutely love is the attention to detail Lindsey put into the little things. Everything from her personalized hanger for the dress to her AWESOME custom cake topper – the little elements were everywhere. I love the way they bucked tradition. We photographed everyone ahead of time, and even rode all together in the limo to/from the ceremony. They even had their super adorable doggie, Dolce, in the wedding party AT the church!

Congratulations to Eric & Lindsey, I’m so happy for you guys!

Summertime l OBX Photographer ~ Outer Banks Portraits

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

Summertime….it felt like it was never going to get here. We battled the craziest winter ever, with multiple snowfalls and cold wind. We were teased with a few warm days, and whole lot of pollen. Finally the warm weather is here, and looks like it’s here to stay!

A couple of weeks ago I headed out to the ball field to watch some of my favorite kids play tee-ball. If you’ve never watched a tee-ball game, you’ve not fully lived. When my friends invited me to come watch the kids play, I knew it would be an event for the camera – and let me tell you – it did NOT disappoint. Hand’s down, the funniest thing I’ve seen in a loooong time. Tee-ball is made up mostly of 4-5 year olds, and they give them a couple of tries to hit the ball being pitched to them before having them hit it on the tee. To say it was hilarious was an understatement. They had everything from kids hitting each other in the head with the ball, dancing in the outfield, and even a kid eating chalk from the ground (no, I’m not kidding..haha).

I’ll let the pictures do the talking…

Cousins….enough said!
