Mabel Claire l Outer Banks Portrait Photography

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Meet Mabel – my adorable 11 year old sister. She is absolutely my “mini me” – and I just can’t believe she’s 11 already. I don’t get the chance to photograph her as much as I’d like, so when we decided to the photos for my parents Christmas Card – I was really excited. Can you believe this will be their first year doing a *photo* Christmas Card….and I’m a photographer? I think it’s wonderful when people choose locations and props that are unique and meaningful. We decided on a really special place, my grandparents farm/house in VA – and even more special, we were able to incorporate some pieces that were my grandfather’s. The most special of all being the tractor. I’m pretty sure that every one of us learned to drive on that tractor….going up and down the field all.day.long. I can still hear my grandfather reminding us NOT to turn around in the field and risk running over whatever happened to be planted at the time. It’s been years since I’ve driven that old tractor, and Mabel never had. She got her chance that day, and she’s pretty good at it too.

Emily & Toby : Engaged | Outer Banks Wedding & Engagement Photographer

Emily and Toby are getting hitched…..next weekend. We did their session last month, and I’m just now getting it up on the blog.

Emily and I share several mutual friends, and Toby is the cousin of one  of my May brides, Gretchen. I love when I work with families multiple times, because you really do get to know everyone. We tried for a couple of weeks to fit in their session, but between schedules and rain we were starting to think it might just not happen. Luckily we finally had some great weather, and a change of locations, and we were good to go. As most people here on the Outer Banks, our lives revolve around the water  - and that’s definitely true for Toby, who runs his own charter boat business. We chose Pirate’s Cove for our location, and it really fit.

Congrats guys and I’m looking forward to next weekend!

I am WAY behind on my blogging for the year. With the season pretty much coming to a close, most sessions have been getting  a preview on facebook or going directly to their online gallery. I’m going to be back-blogging some sessions here before too long.

Until then, meet Courtney and her wonderful family!

I’ve known Courtney since middle school – I can’t believe it goes that far back. Growing up in a small town, I’m pretty sure she was the other Courtney I’d ever met for a long time. Not to mention we both had last names starting with “H”….well…you get the rest. Courtney and her hubby Jeremy have lived all over – including being stationed in Germany, where they welcomed son Colin into the family. I’m pretty sure she told me in the 3.5 years they lived there they traveled all over – and have now been to about 7 countries. Cute little Colin has a been a respectable 5 himself, which is no easy feat for a 5 year old. ;) Courtney emailed to let me they were going to be back in town visiting family, and wanted to set up a shoot. We had a great time this morning out on the beach with BEAUTIFUL weather! October is a wonderful time here on the OBX, and this morning didn’t disappoint. Colin was so well behaved and made it through the whole thing. Even better – we got some unusually blue sky for a morning session in several shots. Can’t get any better than that!!
