2012 Outer Banks Wedding Expo l OBX Wedding Photographer

January 27th, 2012

The 2012 Outer Banks Wedding Association Wedding Expo has come and gone, and what a weekend it was! I had such a great time catching up with all the vendors and meeting a whole new batch of amazing brides and grooms!

The wedding weekend is always crazy! I started the expo weekend with the wedding tour on Saturday, and I was thrilled to be set up at the fabulous Pavilion at Pirate’s Cove – which also happens to be MY wedding venue as well!  I had a great day hanging with Heather from Pirate’s Cove as we chatted about our upcoming weddings, and met with a lot of really great engaged couples! Quickly rushed over to the high school to set up my booth, and I must give a HUGE thanks to my family and friends. Every year they really take one for the team to help me prepare.

Saturday night I ventured to welcome reception with my second shooter, Renee, to check out the super fabulous David Tutera from WE tv’s My Fair Wedding! After hearing him talk, and a Q&A session with the audience he was gracious enough to stick around for photos.  I’m normally a level headed person, but I was actually giddy to meet David! Can you say goober?

My super awesome second shooter, Renee, jumped in:

Sunday’s Expo is always an exciting day. The crowds, the food, the cake…..what more can you ask for? I always get there bright and early to put the finishing touches on my booth and visit with everyone! We were thrilled when David Tutera stopped by and I was able to get another photo with him IN my booth. He is the nicest guy, sticking around for a few minutes to chat with us on how he feels about the “First Look”.

It’s that time of year again, time to photograph two of my favorite little cuties! It’s really true that the holidays seem to have snuck up on everyone this past year! Their mom is usually super prepared and we shoot their holiday portraits really early. Not this year! We were getting down to the wire when we finally decided one afternoon to get the kids and get out there. This is one of the first years we didn’t do a “theme” and I love the photos. The kids are finally at an age where they can *really* listen to direction and they had a lot of fun playing with each other. We finished up the shoot with a trip to the cupcake store for a little treat!

January 20th, 2012

I met up with my brother Kevin, his girlfriend Leah, and their two corgi’s for some holiday portraits Downtown Manteo. Since last year they’ve added on a second dog, which makes getting the Christmas card photo a little more challenging – but we were able to bust it out!

It’s official, the photographer is getting married! After 12 years, Rob proposed about a week before Christmas. The fall of 2012 will bring a lot of planning, but I’m thrilled! Rob and I are very excited, and I have a new appreciation for all of my couples!

I love photographing friends, it’s almost like not working at all! My friend Debi and I were chatting about her family holiday photos while running down the road. Debi and I both do a fitness bootcamp, in fact, we started on the same day so I guess you could say we’ve been together from the beginning. Six months ago we were both running our first 5k and now we both just finished our first Half Marathon. It’s insane to think of how far we’ve come. Debi is hysterical – she always keeps me laughing, and after spending the afternoon with her family the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree! We met up downtown with her husband and kids to get the perfect Christmas card photo. Everyone, right on down to Sasha the dog, was on their best behavior!

Nikki + Eric {Day After} l Outer Banks Wedding Photographer

November 10th, 2011

The day after Nikki & Eric’s beautiful Duck wedding we met up in Downtown Manteo for their “Day After” session. These two are beyond gorgeous and I loved how their vintage wedding attire really fit in Downtown. It’s always nice to change it up a bit, and photograph somewhere other than the beach. We started our session in front of the Pioneer Theater, and wandered our way throughout downtown.  Nikki & Eric are awesome, and I wish them a lifetime of happiness!

I met with Nikki and Eric 4th of July weekend up in Duck to chat about their upcoming wedding. From the first meeting I just knew it was going to be a great wedding, not only because they were so friendly and laid back but because they wanted that to be the feel of their wedding. They chose to do a small wedding with immediate family on a soundside pier/gazebo in Duck that belongs to the community where Nikki’s family owns a house, followed by dinner at The Blue Point in Duck. That was the plan, and then Hurricane Irene happened! Nikki and Eric took it in stride, because most people would panic when they find out their ceremony site now looks like this:

A quick change of plans, and the ceremony was moved to The Saltaire in Duck. GREAT CHOICE! The Saltaire is beautiful, and made for a beautiful backdrop. Everything from the interior rooms to the outside was perfect. Even more perfect were Nikki and Eric, who wowed everyone with their gorgeous looks. Nikki stole the show in her vintage dress…..be still my heart! As much as I love shooting on the beach, it’s a photographers dream when you get to break out of your normal and do something a little different. The evening ended with drinks on the back lawn of The Blue Point watching the sun set over the sound, followed by dinner in the private room. Congrats on a beautiful wedding!

Elizabeth & Matt {Married} l Outer Banks Wedding Photographer

October 4th, 2011

Elizabeth and Matt lucked out with beautiful weather for their morning beach wedding. Taking place only a little bit after Hurricane Irene blew through the Outer Banks, we were very lucky that their reception location didn’t sustain any major damage. I met up with Elizabeth at her rental cottage for a few getting ready and detail shots before heading over to Coquina Beach for the ceremony. Family and friends gathered around, everyone helping to make the rows of sand castles ready for Elizabeth’s walk down the isle. We followed up their ceremony with a brunch reception at Pamlico Jack’s Restaurant in Nags Head. Later that afternoon we met up again for a “Day After” session, mixing up some photos at the putt-putt course and back at the beach.

September 19th, 2011

That’s right….holiday cards are coming!!!! As I type, the 2011 Holiday Card Designs are in the process of being added to client galleries for ordering. The process should be completed shortly, and then comes the hard decision on which card (and photos!) to choose!
